Eastern Conference Hackfest

It?s a problem for the NBA that the league?s showcase games are marred by hacks, complaints, and endless trips to the free-throw line. The ugly aesthetics of foul after foul are exacerbated by playoff games? grindingly slow pace. With a championship in sight, teams dial down the fast break and play more in the half court. According to Basketball Reference?s ?Pace Factor? stats, which tally up possessions per 48 minutes, there?s been only one season in the last 38 in which the playoffs had a faster tempo than the regular season. (That was 1985, when the ?Showtime? Lakers ran past the Celtics in the Finals.)

Facebook smooths the way for carrier billing on inapp purchases

Facebook has known for some time now that its app-monetization process was more SucksVille, than FarmVille. Now, it's just announced that it's rolling out the new silky-smooth two-step payment process. This means you can stock up on Farm cash sans typing, and forget about the real cost until your mobile bill turns up. Currently most US and UK networks are on board, but more international operators will be added as soon as they can. If you already have payments integrated in your app, you should be good to go, but if you don't, and you want a slice of the pie, there's an API and instructions via the source link.

Decriminalize marijuana? Four ways America's views of pot are changing

For more than 20 years, national polls have shown increasing acceptance of marijuana use, proponents of legalization note. But acceptance has not yet hit a critical mass, opponents counter. They point to the failure of?California?s Proposition 19 in 2010, which would have allowed small amounts of marijuana for personal use while regulating and taxing it.?

Polls offer different views on whether ? and how much ? views of marijuana have changed since then.

Some experts say the first state to approve marijuana for casual use is right around the corner, perhaps as soon as this November.

According to a Rasmussen Reports poll released in May, 56 percent of Americans?now support legalizing cannabis and regulating it the way alcohol and tobacco are. Some 36 percent were opposed.?

Dale Gieringer, state coordinator of?California?NORML?(National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws), said the Rasmussen poll marked a high water moment for the legal marijuana movement, suggesting that it showed?"the?strongest support ever recorded."

According to the telephone poll in April, 47 percent of adults also "believe the country should legalize and tax marijuana in order to help solve the nation's fiscal problems." Forty-two percent of respondents disagreed, while 10 percent are undecided.

Another poll by Angus Reid also suggested that Americans broadly agreed that marijuana crimes should be punished less harshly than some others.?Three of four Americans favor the use of fines or probation in lieu of criminal sanctions for marijuana offenders, according to the May?poll.

In addition, 74 percent of respondents said they favored the imposition of "alternative penalties," such as fines, probation, or community service, rather than prison for violators of marijuana possession laws. By contrast, only 41 percent of respondents favored such penalties for credit-card fraud, and only one-third for drunk driving offenders.

A May poll by the?University of Southern California?Dornsife/Los Angeles Times, however, suggested that California voters still reject legal marijuana by similar margins to 2010. Prop. 19 failed with 54 percent voting against and 46 percent in favor. The USC poll found that 50 percent of California voters remain opposed to legal marijuana, while 46 percent are in favor?of ?general or recreational use by adults.?

Classic Treat Free Article Directory ? How to work out Algebra ...

Algebra is the study of?mathematics which helps us to find the?unknown values of the variables?which can be?attained by solving the?equations. Equations are formed by the?? addition and subtraction of different terms. ?The basic unit?of?any algebraic expression?is called a term. ?If the variables and the constants are combined together with the relation of multiplication and division, then it is?a term.? In case the addition?sign or the subtraction sign appears between the variables or the constants, we call them the separate terms. We say that the term will contain either any number or the product of the number and with the variables. If we have a term say -2ay, then we say that? -3 is the numerical coefficient and ay is the? variable. We say that the?numerical coefficient?can have a numerical sign if it is a negative number or a positive number.

We use Algebra Worksheets in order? to solve the real life problems where some of the value ?is unknown and we need to get the value? which is first named as a variable and then equation is formed based on the facts given related to the situation.

Any Algebraic Expression is the collection of the numerical values along with the variables and the positive or the negative sign of operation. We?use the operators in the expressions to join the?terms of the expression. We form the algebraic equation which?is the mathematical form of the?statement. We solve the?equation in order to?get the solution to the variable. By solving the equation we mean that we find the value of the variable which when placed in the equation will satisfy the equation.

Let us see how to form the algebraic equation and how to solve it. ?Any equation can be solved either by the hit and trial method or by the?method of separating the variable from the ??constants.

Suppose we have a statement?? : three times a number is added to 5 gives 17

SO the algebraic equation will be formed as follows:

Let us assume that?the number is x

So we say that three times a number x can be written as 3 * x

Now the equation formed will be

3 * x? + 5 = 17

On subtracting? 5 from both sides of the equation, we get :

3 * x? + 5 ? 5 = 17 ? 5

Or 3 *x = 12

Now we divide both sides of the equation? by 3 and we get :

3x / 3? = 12 / 3

Or x = 4 Ans

Now we will check that?if the value of x = 4 is correct for the equation. Now for this we say that?we will place?this value in the given equation:

3 * 4 +? 5 = 17

Or 12 + 5 = 17

Thus we conclude that L.H.S = R.H.S

Thus the solution is correct.

We have online Algebra Worksheets, which helps us to learn about the concepts of algebra and help the child to practice more about?Algebra.

We can visit tutorcircle.com r? to learn about? Bayes Theorem.? We?can take online help from boards.edurite.com about the Previous Year Question Papers for Psychology of Andhra Pradesh Board, which will help us to learn about the?pattern of the paper in the previous exams.

Wisconsin holds recall more than a year in making

MADISON, Wis. (AP) ? After a brief but bruising campaign that followed a more than yearlong fight over union rights and Wisconsin's cash-strapped budget, voters in the narrowly divided state began casting ballots Tuesday on whether to recall Gov. Scott Walker.

The first-term Republican was back on the ballot just a year and a half after his election. Enraged Democrats and labor activists gathered more than 900,000 signatures in support of the recall after they failed to stop Walker and his GOP allies in the state Legislature from stripping most public employees of their union right to collectively bargain.

Walker faces a rematch with Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, whom he beat in 2010 by 5 percentage points, as he tries to become the first U.S. governor to successfully fend off a recall.

At an elementary school in the Milwaukee suburb of Wauwatosa where he cast his ballot not long after polls opened at 7 a.m., Walker said voting day almost came as a relief.

"I think most people are just happy to have the election over," he said. "I think most voters of the state want to have all the attack ads off. They want to have their TVs back. They want to have their lives back."

Barrett meanwhile applauded the voters for turning out in force ? and for being prepared to wait a while to cast their ballots.

"Obviously the lines are very, very long which we take as a very encouraging sign. People are engaged in this," he said. "We've noted over the last 96 hours is around the state the energy has just been building and building and building."

Turnout is key. Polls indicate there are few undecided voters; if the tally is close, swing counties in the west of the state could decide the result. And Democrats are hoping to rally the same level of support that saw the state Capitol overrun with Walker opponents last year.

State elections officials predict that 60 percent to 65 percent of eligible voters will turn out. Government Accountability Board statistics show that 49.7 percent turned out for the 2010 Walker-Barrett race. The board said early turnout was heavy and without problems Tuesday.

William Van Wagner, a 21-year-old student in Madison, waited in a line of about 30 people to cast his ballot for Walker not long after the polls opened.

"It's pretty clear that his policies have worked for us," Van Wagner said.

John Ipsen, 63, a mechanical engineer from Madison, said he opposed everything that Walker has done and that the rare recall ? never before used against a Wisconsin governor ? was clearly necessary.

"It's obviously not done very often so there's a good reason for it," Ipsen said after casting his vote for Barrett, whom he also supported in 2010.

The recall effort against Walker began bubbling last year, shortly after the former Milwaukee County executive successfully pushed through his union rights proposal, which also requires most state workers to pay more for their health insurance and pension benefits.

Walker said that's what was needed to balance the state's budget. But Democrats and labor leaders saw it as a political tactic designed to gut the power of his political opposition. They rallied by the tens of thousands at the state Capitol in protest, but could not stop Republicans who control the state Legislature from approving Walker's plans.

It didn't take long for opponents to call for a recall.

The recall petition drive couldn't officially start until November ? months after Walker's triumph at the Legislature ? because Wisconsin law requires that someone must be in office for at least a year before facing a recall. Organizers hit the streets a week before Thanksgiving and spent two months gathering more than 900,000 signatures ? about 360,000 more than were needed to trigger the election. Barrett was chosen as Walker's opponent in a primary last month.

Now, Walker stands in unique company: He is only the third governor in U.S. history to face a recall vote. The other two lost, most recently California Gov. Gray Davis in 2003.

Not all public workers oppose Walker's moves.

"I believe what he's been doing is the right thing," said Greg Reiman, 55, who works for the Milwaukee County Department on Aging. "I'm paying the additional pension and health, and I'm fine with that."

But 72-year-old William Dixon, a self-employed woodworker from Whitefish Bay who voted for Barrett, said he was disgusted by the governor's collective bargaining policies.

"I don't think he's been truthful," Dixon said. Asking workers to pay more for benefits is one thing, "but I do think they have a right to bargain for wages," he said.

Walker, the 44-year-old son of a minister, has remained unflappable throughout the campaign just as he was during the massive protests that raged at the Statehouse for weeks as lawmakers debated his proposal. Along the way, he's become a star among Republicans and the most successful fundraiser in Wisconsin politics, collecting at least $31 million from around the country since taking office. That obliterated his fundraising record of $11 million from 2010.

Much of the money for the race has come from out of state. About $63 million has been spent on the race so far, including $16 million from conservative groups such as the Republican Governors Association, Americans for Prosperity and the National Rifle Association. The majority of Walker's donations are from people outside Wisconsin.

Democratic groups ? including those funded by unions, the Democratic Governors Association and the Democratic National Committee ? have poured in about $14 million, based on a tally from the government watchdog group the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. Barrett's $4.2 million in donations, meanwhile, were mostly from inside Wisconsin.

Walker wasn't the only politician up for recall. His lieutenant governor, Rebecca Kleefisch, and three Republican state senators also faced votes, and a fourth state Senate seat will be determined after the Republican incumbent resigned rather than face the recall.

Tuesday's vote will also have implications for labor unions and the presidential election in November. Labor unions have a lot at stake because they pushed so hard to force a recall. But when it comes to the presidential race, exactly what those implications are is unclear.

Republicans are hopeful a Walker win would pave the way for Mitt Romney to win Wisconsin, making him the first GOP candidate to carry the state since Ronald Reagan in 1984. If Walker loses, most agree President Barack Obama will have an edge. Either way, the state is likely to remain in play.

More evidence for Asia, not Africa, as the source of earliest anthropoid primates

Pittsburgh, PAAn international team of researchers has announced the discovery of Afrasia djijidae, a new fossil primate from Myanmar that illuminates a critical step in the evolution of early anthropoidsthe group that includes humans, apes, and monkeys. The 37-million-year-old Afrasia closely resembles another early anthropoid, Afrotarsius libycus, recently discovered at a site of similar age in the Sahara Desert of Libya. The close similarity between Afrasia and Afrotarsius indicates that early anthropoids colonized Africa only shortly before the time when these animals lived. The colonization of Africa by early anthropoids was a pivotal step in primate and human evolution, because it set the stage for the later evolution of more advanced apes and humans there. The scientific paper describing the discovery appears today in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

For decades, scientists thought that anthropoid evolution was rooted in Africa. However, more recent fossil discoveries in China, Myanmar, and other Asian countries have rapidly altered scientific opinion about where this group of distant human ancestors first evolved. Afrasia is the latest in a series of fossil discoveries that are overturning the concept of Africa as the starting point for anthropoid primate evolution.

"Not only does Afrasia help seal the case that anthropoids first evolved in Asia, it also tells us when our anthropoid ancestors first made their way to Africa, where they continued to evolve into apes and humans," says Chris Beard, Carnegie Museum of Natural History paleontologist and member of the discovery team that also included researchers from Myanmar, Thailand, and France. Beard is renowned for his extensive work on primate evolution and anthropoid origins. "Afrasia is a game-changer because for the first time it signals when our distant ancestors initially colonized Africa. If this ancient migration had never taken place, we wouldn't be here talking about it."

Timing is everything

Paleontologists have been divided over exactly how and when early Asian anthropoids made their way from Asia to Africa. The trip could not have been easy, because a more extensive version of the modern Mediterranean Sea called the Tethys Sea separated Africa from Eurasia at that time. While the discovery of Afrasia does not solve the exact route early anthropoids followed in reaching Africa, it does suggest that the colonization event occurred relatively recently, only shortly before the first anthropoid fossils are found in the African fossil record.

Myanmar's 37-million-year-old Afrasia is remarkable in that its teeth closely resemble those of Afrotarsius libycus, a North African primate dating to about the same time. The four known teeth of Afrasia were recovered after six years of sifting through tons of sediment near Nyaungpinle in central Myanmar. This locality occurs in the middle Eocene Pondaung Formation, where the same international research team discovered Ganlea megacanina, an influential fossil described in 2009 that helped solidify the presence of early anthropoid primates in Asia.

Details of tooth shape in the Asian Afrasia and the North African Afrotarsius fossils indicate that these animals probably ate insects. The size of their teeth suggests that in life these animals weighed around 3.5 ounces (100 g), roughly the size of a modern tarsier.

Because of the complicated structure of mammalian teeth, paleontologists often use them as fingerprints to reconstruct how extinct species are related to each other and their modern relatives. These similarities provide strong evidence that Afrasia's Asian cousins colonized North Africa only shortly before the appearance of Afrotarsius in the African fossil record. If Asian anthropoids had arrived in North Africa earlier, there would have been time for more differences to evolve between Afrasia and Afrotarsius. The close similarity in age and anatomy shared by the two species makes Afrasia a touchstone in the quest to date the spread of anthropoid primates from Asia to Africa.

"For years we thought the African fossil record was simply bad," says Professor Jean-Jacques Jaeger of the University of Poitiers in France, the team leader and a Carnegie Museum research associate. "The fact that such similar anthropoids lived at the same time in Myanmar and Libya suggests that the gap in early African anthropoid evolution is actually real. Anthropoids didn't arrive in Africa until right before we find their fossils in Libya."

Implications for future research

The search for the origin of early anthropoidsand, by extension, early human ancestorsis a focal point of modern paleoanthropology. The discovery of Afrasia shows that one lineage of early anthropoids colonized Africa around 37? million years ago, but the diversity of early anthropoids known from the Libyan site that produced Afrotarsius libycus hints that the true picture was more complicated. These other Libyan fossil anthropoids may be the descendants of one or more additional Asian colonists, because they don't appear to be specially related to Afrasia and Afrotarsius. Fossil evidence of evolutionary divergencewhen a species divides to create new lineagesis critical data for researchers in evolution. The groundbreaking discovery of the relationship between Asia's Afrasia and North Africa's Afrotarsius is an important benchmark for pinpointing the date at which Asian anthropoids colonized Africa.

"Groundbreaking research like this underscores the vitality of modern natural history museums," says Sam Taylor, director of Carnegie Museum of Natural History. "Research like this can only be sustained by the irreplaceable collections, curatorial expertise, and scientific infrastructure that natural history museums provide. At the same time, cutting-edge science like this revitalizes our museum's educational programs and propels its mission."

"Reconstructing events like the colonization of Africa by early anthropoids is a lot like solving a very cold case file," says Beard. "Afrasia may not be the anthropoid who actually committed the act, but it is definitely on our short list of prime suspects."

(AP) ? Mason Hansen guns his pickup and cranks the steering wheel to spin through sand up to 4 feet high, but this is no day at the beach.

Hanson once grew corn and soybeans in the sandy wasteland in western Iowa, and his frustration is clear. Despite months spent hauling away tons of sand dropped when the flooded Missouri River engulfed his farm last summer, parts of the property still look like a desert.

Hundreds of farmers are still struggling to remove sand and fill holes gouged by the Missouri River, which swelled with rain and snowmelt, overflowed its banks and damaged thousands of acres along its 2,341-mile route from Montana through North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa and Missouri. The worst damage and the largest sand deposits were in Iowa and Nebraska.

"We'll be working on this for years," Hansen said. "It'll never be right. Ever. People don't have any idea how big of a mess this is."

Hansen has spent the past nine months pushing sand off the land he has farmed since 2000 near Missouri Valley, about 25 miles north of Omaha, Neb. Throughout the mild winter, he worked with his neighbor and two farm employees to clear 140 acres, but about 160 acres are still buried under sand.

The work is tedious. As the men scrape away the sand with bulldozers, they must stop repeatedly to pull out equipment that has become stuck in the still soggy fields.

As they work, catfish swim in a 30-foot-deep hole scoured out by the river, and a faint sandy haze clouds the air. On days when the wind picks up, sandstorms sweep through the fields, blinding workers as they dig into the ground.

"We have the means and the ability to fix it," Hansen said. "... But when you have to come out here and deal with it all the time, it gets old."

Shawn Shouse, an Iowa State University engineer and agribusiness expert, said most farmers can repair their land, but for some it will take another year or two of work. The first chore is removing the sand.

"The sand doesn't hold nutrients and water the way soil does, so it's not suitable for growing crops," he said. "If the deposits are thin, they can stir them into the soil and probably get along well. But when the deposits are several feet thick, they really have to move that sand somewhere else. That can be really expensive ? and you have to figure out what to do with it."

Shouse said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers prohibits farmers from dumping sand back into the river without a federal permit, so most of it gets piled along the fields and used to fill giant holes left by the water.

That's what Hanson has done. But even when the sand is cleared, farmers' problems aren't over.

The sand and months underwater killed crucial microbes in the soil that help crops grow. Restoring those microbes, which develop naturally on plant roots, could take several years. Farmers plant corn, knowing it will grow inefficiently until enough microbes get back into the soil.

In Iowa, the flood inundated nearly 256,000 acres of cropland in six western counties, while in Nebraska, it swamped about 119,000 acres. Dan Steinkruger, the Farm Service Agency's Nebraska state executive director, said Iowa has more low-lying fields along the banks than his state.

Farmers in Nebraska and western Iowa lost a combined $300 million or more in crop sales and other economic activity to the flooding, according to the two states' Farm Bureaus.

Neither the Farm Service Agency nor other federal and state agencies have kept tabs on how much land has been cleared so far. But in speaking with farmers, it appears there is a long way to go.

Scott Olson has managed to restore about 140 of his 500 acres near Tekamah, Neb., that were submerged in last year's flood.

In one regard, he was lucky; most of his 3,000-acre farm was spared. But in the section that did flood, the water cut new holes and channels, creating drainage problems Olson expects will last for years. When the river receded, it left up to 15 feet of sand in some areas. Up to 5 feet remain.

The 55-year-old said he has spent more than $200,000 on bulldozers, land scrapers and workers thus far.

He's confident most of the cost eventually will be covered by disaster aid, but he's still waiting for that money to come through. Hansen said he also will qualify for disaster aid, but he expects the payments will cover only about half of what he's spent.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved more than $20 million in disaster aid for Iowa and Nebraska, which will help farmers with the cost of moving sand, grading land and filling scour holes.

"It's just totally, totally devastating," Olson said. "The dollar amount for what it takes to put it all back together again is going to be tremendous. And it's going to cost you, the taxpayer, in case you haven't already figured that out."

Can You Make A Living As A Freelance Information Product Creator?

Do you need to sell information products in order to make a living as a creator of learning content? I mean, that seems to be the impression you get if you hang around the internet marketing business long enough.

Wanna make money? Create an infoproduct. Wanna build a reputation? Create an information product. On and on but underlying it all is that you need to sell those self-same learning courses.

Is there another way to create learning products and make a living without having to sell those information products?

The answer is yes!

There are four basic roles in the supply chain of learning content products.

1. The creator

2. The presenter

3. The packager or publisher

4. The seller

Frequently the presenter and the seller are the same person ? at least on the internet. But the creation of high quality infoproducts is a specialty. And it?s a task that can be done from the background, without anyone being the wiser. And that situation ? high skill specialty and a background task ? makes information product creation fertile ground for a freelance business.

In this article, I?m going to identify three markets that are perfect for the freelance information product creator.

1. Large companies

Large companies are the traditional market for most of the training industry. After all, one of their primary critical success indicators is how up-to-date their employees are. In other words, how often they train their people. So most large companies spend a great deal of money in supplying training to their people. Some of that training is contracted ? the training company provides both content and trainer and sometimes facilities. But a large portion is internal ? provided by internal or contract training staff. Companies often prefer to own the course material and so they will hire freelance learning content providers to design their courses.

2. Large Training Companies

Large training companies such as Learning Tree International or Global Knowledge usually hire contract trainers who are responsible for both content and delivery. However, they also maintain a set of courses which are their property. This type of learning content is often provided by freelance course designers.

3. Information Product Marketers

New information marketers are told to design their own information products. After all, they are the experts and if they are going to go beyond the minimum they need to have their own information products. But many of the infoproduct marketers are large multi-million dollar companies. The owner no longer creates his own products. In fact, he or she may not even bother to act as presenter. The creation of information products is often one of those tasks that are outsourced very quickly. Why? Because doing it well is a specialty involving many years of training. These large publisher/marketers often release several new products a year. Freelance staffing can prove to be cheaper for these companies than hiring employees.

Build A Sticky Site: Five Tips To Increase Visitor Engagement

Article by Kevin Phillips

Part of the foundation of any Internet marketing strategy is building a website that engages visitors and drives them deeper into your content. The concept, known as site stickiness, can really make a difference in your company?s brand awareness, customer engagement, and financial bottom line! Here are five excellent tips that you can use today to help make your website stickier.

Create an image strategy for your website. One of the buzz topics in Internet marketing today is building an image strategy, or rather putting images to work for you. Images, oftentimes more than words, engage web visitors with your brand. This fits, as often web surfers only spend minutes, or even seconds, on any given page! You need to grab their attention and keep it in the most effective way possible, which is where images come in. Find places where images can tell the story just as well as words, and develop with images and create infographics that fit the bill. This strong imagery will keep your visitors engaged for longer, leading to more page views and opportunities to take action with your company.

A clean, simple navigation is another key to site stickiness. If visitors can?t easily get to where they want to go, they will quickly surf away from your website! Beware of overwhelming navigation tricks like lists within lists. Stick to as few navigation links as you need to initially lead your visitor to take another action with your website. Also, keep your main navigation ?above the fold?, meaning the visitor should not have to scroll the page to get to your important navigation links. If visitors can?t initially see what you want them to do, then you are in jeopardy of losing them.

If you feel your content is not up to snuff, research copywriting online. There are tons of excellent resources available that can teach you how to create more engaging content.

Offer free research, white papers, and case studies. Your visitors may be very interested in learning how others fared using your products or services. They may be intrigued to discover new research related to the topics relevant to your business. Free white papers and original research can really engage visitors and keep them glued to your website for longer. Consider developing an annual study related to your company?s market that you can feature on your website every year!

With increased site stickiness, you?ll see your page views, and ultimately sales, jump exponentially! Take action on these tips today, and get ready to watch your business grow.

157 Torchbearers will carry the Flame before it arrives at the Evening Celebration in Liverpool where a cauldron will be lit to mark the culmination of the day?s festivities. After the celebrations have finished, the Flame will be transferred to a lantern and it will stay in Liverpool overnight.

On Day 14 the Flame will be carried through the following communities:

Bolton, Horwich, Chorley, Euxton, Croston, Burscough, Ormskirk, Southport, Ainsdale, Formby, Crosby, St Helen?s, Huyton, Knotty Ash, Old Swan, Birkenhead and Liverpool.

The first Torchbearer of the day will be Antony Evitts, 16, from Bolton, who was nominated by Bolton Council for his excellence in swimming, will set off from the steps of the City Hall. Antony has represented the England Talent Programme from a young age, and has realised successes both regionally and nationally. From age 11 he has been ranked in the top six in Great Britain in four events. His biggest achievement to date is qualifying for two events in the 2010 British Championships, where he competed against the best swimmers in Great Britain. Antony is committed to his education at Canon Slade School and effectively manages both his sporting and academic career. Alongside his studies, he trains on a nationally acclaimed swimming programme which involves nine swimming and two gym sessions per week. Antony won the Bolton Sport and Physical Activity Award (BOSPAA) for Sports Achiever of the Year in 2010. His long term goal is to represent Great Britain at the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

During the day the Flame will visit a number of iconic landmarks. Highlights include:

Anthony Gormley?s Another Place, Crosby. The Flame will be carried to Another Place by Jessica Wade, 15, from Liverpool, who was nominated in the LOCOG public nomination campaign for her time and dedication given to animals in need. The Flame will then be carried along Another Place by three different Torchbearers. Receiving the Flame from Jessica will be Paul Mcevoy, 25, Liverpool, who was selected through Coca Cola for the time and dedication that he gives to young people. Paul will then hand the Flame to Richard Webster, 45, from The Wirral, who was selected through Lloyds TSB for his efforts raising money for charities. Richard will then hand the Flame to Francis Meadows, 53, Liverpool, who was selected through Lloyds TSB for his 25 years of work at Crosby Stuart Junior Football.

Aintree Racecourse. Kimberley Cooper, 22, from Liverpool, who was nominated through the LOCOG campaign, will carry the Flame through the grandstands and out onto the racecourse. Kim was the ?Legend? vinspired National Award Winner for 2011. The award recognises someone who has successfully led a team of volunteers to make a difference. Kim volunteered at Leeds University as a Project Co-ordinator for ?Green Streets?, a project that stops re-usable items left by students in their halls of residence ending up in a landfill. Over two years she led her team to divert over 50 tonnes of re-usable material and created over 3,000 hours of volunteering for her team. She grew ?Green Streets? into a city-wide scheme bringing in multiple partnerships, including Leeds City Council, local community groups and other Universities.

Knowsley Safari Park, Prescot. The Flame will be carried around Knowsley Safari Park by Jane Campbell, 36, from Liverpool, who was selected through Lloyds TSB for her work in starting and running a Seniors Lunch Club in one of the most deprived areas of the country. This will include a visit to the Elephant Enclosure and the Giraffe Platform.

The Mersey Ferry, Birkenhead. The Flame will be carried into the jetty by Rebecca Blacklock, 19, from The Wirral, who was selected through Lloyds TSB for her dedication and commitment to voluntary work in the area. She will then hand the Flame to Craig Lundberg, 26, from Liverpool who will carry the Flame onto the ferry for the crossing across the Mersey. Craig was blinded whilst on service in Iraq in 2007 when a rocket propelled grenade blew in his face. Since his injuries Craig has, amongst many other things, played for the England blind football team, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro for the Help the Heroes charity, worked in the community giving inspirational speeches to children and is a support to other wounded servicemen, he is also hoping to participate in the Paralympics in the GB blind football team. Despite his injuries Craig has a fighting spirit and doesn?t let anything get in his way, he has taken it in his stride turned it into a positive and become a role model for other people in a similar situation.

Other Torchbearers during the day will include:

Chris Boardman, 43, from West Kirby, will be carrying the Flame in Birkenhead. Chris Boardman MBE exploded onto the international cycling scene, and captured the British public?s imagination by winning the individual pursuit at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Chris went on to win two world titles on the track, three stages of the Tour de France and set numerous world records including the gruelling hour record shortly before his retirement from cycling in 2000. Chris has always been linked with cutting edge technology and his knowledge and experience became invaluable as he led British Cycling?s research and development team in the run up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where they became the most successful British sporting team of all time. Outside of cycling, Chris ran the 2009 London Marathon for the National Autistic Society and launched the 5km Santa Dash on behalf of the Hoylake Cottage community hospital in West Kirby. Chris is truly an inspirational figure in the history of British sport.

Mel C, 38, London, will be carrying the Flame in Birkenhead. She has been part of one of the most successful Girl Bands of all time, The Spice Girls, and has since forged a name for herself as a sole artist achieving over 3 million album sales, two number 1 singles, six top 10 singles and over 200 combined weeks on the UK chart. Melanie has given a lot of time to various charities including Sport Relief where she has helped raise awareness of people in need in the UK and Worldwide. Melanie is a keen gymnast and dancer and is dedicated to making a difference to people's lives.

Cameron Small, 14, Preston, will be carrying the Flame in Southport. He has inspired so many young and old by his brave fight against a life threatening blood illness. This has included over 900 visits to hospital and harsh, painful treatments including four courses of chemotherapy and many others that have now made him a insulin dependent diabetic. Despite all this, from the age of four he has been an inspirational fundraiser, raising money to help other children and to make their time in hospital easier. He has so far raised an incredible ?115000 by organising things from simple raffles to mass sandcastle builds and has even sat in a bath of beans for hours. When he heard his beloved children?s hospital was to close and an appeal was being launched to raise ?20 million in just three years he decided that he must get involved and so three years later after many adventures and hard work, Cameron gave a speech at a gala celebration dinner thanking everyone who was involved for their efforts and that the total had been reached. For all his efforts, Cameron was made the first young ambassador for the Royal Manchester Children?s Hospital and has since been awarded many awards from the Children?s Champion to the Pride of Britain.
